    Nusa Dua is the fancy hotel area of Bali. There are some amazing hotels there.

    Kuta is a little ways away – it’s rougher but appeals to twentysomethings. That was the unfortunate site of the Hard Rock Cafe.

    Ubud is a bit inland. Gorgeous temples, slower pace, well worth a visit if it’s still nice.

    Weird naming convention for farmers/craftsmen there: firstborn is Wayan, second is Made, third Nyoman and fourth Ketut, then it repeats. If you see an “I Made” sign, it’s the business place of a male second-born.

    The food can be a bit repetitive on Bali. Be prepared to see the same 12 dishes and odd interpretations of Italian food all over the isle!

    The explanation we were given as to the temple gates is that evil spirits cannot turn at right angles. I guess they don’t notice the side doors, either 馃檪
