Complete this survey for a chance to win an Apple iPad. I’ve probably entered over 100 contests trying to win one of these. And I’ll enter 100 more if that’s what it takes. I hope that’s not what it takes. Good Luck!

Agreed; I’d do almost ANYTHING to win an iPad!!! I have a friend who would be very, very jealous, too 🙂

  2. starrzone says:

Oh yeah…the skill-testing question is 10-5×15. Is the answer not -65? Seems like it “should be” 75, but they taught us in school to do the multiplication operation first…

  3. Frosty says:

    -65?!?

    10-5=5

    5×15=75

    Answer is 75.

  4. starrzone says:

Yeah, but the rule is that you do multiplication first:

    5×15=75

    10-75= -65

In school, we learned to read the question 10-(5×15).

  5. andh_19 says:

I agree with the -65, although hopefully the contest people meant it to follow order of operations. BEDMAS!

  6. Frosty says:

If its in brackets sure u do it first but if there are no brackets u take it one at a time.

  7. Katie says:

Sorry, but no. In an equation with no brackets, you are to do the multiplication and division first, then do any addition and subtraction. Standard grade 6 math.

    “* Order of operations:
The operations inside parentheses () and brackets [] are done first.
Then any operations involving exponents (which you will learn about later).
Then do all multiplying and dividing from left to right.
Finally, do all addition and subtraction from left to right.”

  8. andh_19 says:

    That’s why I said BEDMAS:
Brackets, exponents, division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction.

  9. Mikey says:

I put -65 as well. I bet that’s not what the people creating the question had in mind but it’s technically correct.

This elementary-school-math better not have an influence on my chances of winning.

  10. Frank says:

Come on Artman… tell us what you think about all this!

  11. Casey says:

Wow, what province where you educated in?
No brackets means you do whatever operations left to right. Answer is 75.

  12. artman says:

I put 75. I seriously doubt they want an answer with a negative.

  13. Sean says:

Its not a matter of what province a person is educated in, math is universal!!………. According to simple math knowledge, multiplication and division is always done first when there are no brackets and then the rest of the equation is done from left to right after that. I also think they are looking for an answer of 75 but maybe thats because their math doesn’t go past grade 5 basic math!!!!! HA ha, this is just about as fun as winning stuff, NOT!!! 😀

    If only there was something called a spreadsheet which could have been used to see what it made of it, or an entry for “order of operations” on Wikipedia. Face could have been saved. Oh wait a minute … :-;
