Made in the Shades
Happy summer y’all! While we’re winding down the season, there’s still plenty of sunshine to be enjoyed – and shopping to be done! If you’ve lost a fave pair of sunnies or are simply sick of your current pair, you’re in luck. Today I’m introducing you to Keepwood, a Manitoba-based brand that produces eco-friendly sunglasses and glasses. I’m highlighting a few of my fave pairs below and telling you more about why this brand rocks, so read on!
Zebra Wood Handcrafted Sunglasses – $119
First up, a pair that I picked for myself! Krista at Keepwood was kind enough to send me a pair to try on myself and I gravitated toward the funky animal print-inspired look of these oblong hexagonal frames. The packaging itself is half the fun here – your glasses come in a sturdy bamboo case to keep them from getting crushed or scratches. Plus they include a cleaning cloth and bag to keep them protected when you toss them in your purse or glove box. The glasses are extremely lightweight and comfortable, and with this particular pair I adore the polarized warm brown hue of the lenses – the entire world looks like its been put through an Instagram filter!
Purple Layered Wood Prescription Eyeglass Frames – $115
Keepwood isn’t just about sunglasses, for the record. They also carry a snazzy lineup of frames that can be easily fitted with prescription eyeglass lenses. Just bring your frames to your favourite optometrist and they should be able to cut your lenses for you and install them no problemo. I gravitated toward this fresh pair of purple-hued frames, if only to demonstrate to you all that wooden sunglasses or glasses don’t need to have a super earthy look if that’s not your vibe. Keepwood carries loads of fun colours, shapes, and patterns, and this purple set is just the tip of the iceberg.
Brown Skateboard Wood Sunglasses – $115
Keepwood hasn’t forgotten about the guys either. In fact, the majority of their styles would probably qualify as unisex, although a few veer more masculine, like these cool deep brown wooden sunglasses. Circling back to the whole ‘why wood?’ question, if you’re not aware of the damaging impacts of plastic production (which is in and of itself, a petroleum byproduct), you should read up on it. Too often we view sunglasses as disposable, in part because plastic frames are so prone to breaking. Keepwood is a relatively new kid on the block, but already it’s earning great reviews on Etsy.
