Gabriele’s Retro-Inspired Urban Kitchen
Inspired by a diner from the 1960s, this kitchen is the perfect place to showcase the KitchenAid Commercial-style Range in Passion Red! A graphic patterned floor creates a fun vibe without competing with the stunning red range. Cabinetry in contrasting colors continues that theme, with white cabinetry with dark countertops, contrasted by a dark island with a terrazzo countertop! The farmhouse design everything flows and matches beautifully. That’s my pick. In the retro design it doesn’t come across as very retro for one. I appreciate what they’re going for with that impactful pop of red but it’s not working. Despite it’s clean & more modern look, it comes across all random and disjointed to me.
The sink pushed me over the edge in Jo’s kitchen but also the mix of natural warm finishes, the live edge shelves and the stunning door handles that mirror the look of the overhead lighting.

I picked jo’s farmhouse as more than anything, I would not go for a kitchen with granite tops. They’re cold, noisy and oh so often a ‘non-cooks’ show kitchen! I know a number of people that have spent a fortune on their kitchen, and do little more than heat up lasagne from Costco! I love my friends dearly, and they are all grateful that I am the cook in the group. I have a kitchen with wooden surfaces, a huge dining table to seat up to 14 (c’mon covid, it’s feeling lonely!), and a massive shelf filled with cookbooks. I love cooking for others, and in my open plan kitchen/diner, it is a warm and friendly space……using wood!

I chose the modern farm house kitchen because I am a sucker for natural wood and it just seems so homey and inviting.
I’m unable to own my own appliances because I’m on disability and rent an apartment. My daughter however, has had a house for almost a decade with her husband and 2 boys (ages 18 months and the other one is 15 yrs old). They live on a ravine and have a number of unwanted visitors (raccoons, rats, skunks). Unfortunately, rats have chewed the connections behind the stove and the dishwasher, causing both to stop working. Money is tight and stupid covid19 hasn’t helped. I’d love to help them out by winning a new stainless steel stove (which I think is more important than a dishwasher). What a great gift it would be if I could win this for them! Always have loved the farmhouse look and with owning so many Labrador Retrievers and breeding this amazing dog for over 28 years they go hand in hand. The two Appaloosas and the amazing white pony Casper certainly add to the esthetics.

There is also a white porcelain sinks from the iron faucet or hardware, wood and a balanced mix of updated rustic basics and natural texture. So an industrial and antique influences from the traditional farm. I dream of it…
