Making Herself Heard

Celebrating the creativity and artistry of women in the 17th and 18th centuries, this concert features musicians whose renown as composers and performers was all but ignored in the annals of history. In bringing their work out of the shadows, we discover in a fresh, “new” soundscape in the works of Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Isabella Leonarda, Marianne Martinez, and the enigmatic Mrs. Philarmonica.

Presented as part of Making Her Mark: A History of Women Artists in Europe, 1400-1800 at the Art Gallery of Ontario.

Violinist Rachel Podger appointed Principal Guest Director of Tafelmusik

Tafelmusik is thrilled to announce the appointment of violinist Rachel Podger, “the unsurpassed British glory of the baroque violin” (The Times), to the newly created role of Principal Guest Director for a two-year period starting in September 2024.

Music Director of Tafelmusik from 1981 to 2014, Music Director Emerita from 2015 to 2020, Jeanne Lamon C.M., O. Ont., D. Litt., was praised by critics in Europe and North America for her virtuosity as a violinist and her strong musical leadership. Under her direction, Tafelmusik achieved international stature and is considered “one of the world’s top baroque orchestras” (Gramophone Magazine).
