steamed vegetables

Why do you steam vegetables?

  • Keep nutrients: The most important reason to steam vegetables is that it can keep the vegetables crisp, flavorful and nutritious.
  • Easy and reduce calories: It’s easier than ever to prepare vegetables. And there is no need to use cooking oil, which reduces the fat and calories.

How to steam vegetables?

Ingredients:

  • Any vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, potatoes, green beans…
  • Olive oil and Sesame oil
  • Chopped garlic
  • Juice of lemon
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

1. Cut the vegetables into bite-size pieces and then steam them in the steamer basket. It takes just 5 -6 minutes to steam tender vegetables, like broccoli and asparagus. Harder vegetables, like carrots and potatoes, will take longer. So, you should cut harder vegetables into smaller pieces.

2. Heat a small saute pan over medium heat and add sesame oil, olive oil and garlic, cooking 1 minute.

3. Serve the steamed vegetables. Add the oil mixture and lemon juice, and season to taste with salt and pepper.
